ODS

What we did

Background:

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxford City Council, ODS carries out a range of services for the authority, including road sweeping, highway maintenance and construction.

Aligned with Oxford City Council’s goal to become a zero-emissions zone, ODS have invested in around 50 electric vehicles, including everything from road sweepers to waste trucks.

Challenge:

Matching the livery specification and the customer’s environmental aspirations with the fleet that stays in commission for up to 10 years. Keeping consistency across all the different vehicle types.

Solution:

In their push for sustainability, Stewart Signs suggested they look into non-PVC livery – a solution that aligns with their aspirations for a greener future.

From the outset, our team worked closely with ODS to adapt and tailor their branding for each different vehicle. We assisted them in developing the designs, taking into account the practical considerations and how this should impact our approach.

3M 480 Envision vinyl wrap was our expert choice for the job. As a unique bio-based non-PVC vinyl there are no chemicals to leave behind if it’s burnt or goes to a landfill. Envision is an extremely hard-wearing material with a life expectancy of 10 years. Our 3M Platinum Partner status also allows us to offer an 8-year non-diminishing warranty which exceeds any other product on the market.

We took the design templates from ODS and modified them to fit each specialist vehicle,  ensuring brand consistency and a precise colour match throughout. Due to the wear and tear they will experience during their lifetime, the vehicles needed particular consideration around where to place logos and wrap.

It was important to maintain close contact between our team and ODS, always being available to offer advice and guidance. Working closely with their in-house sign shop livery team, we developed a method so that they can easily repair and touch up the new livery as needed.

The result is a vibrant and striking fleet of new electric vehicles, which will stand out as they help reduce CO2 emissions in the city. We continue providing aftercare services to ODS and look forward to collaborating on future projects.

Stewart Signs’ eco-conscious approach to the project is what made them the right choice for us and our environmental incentives.
