Though swollen feet, aches and pains continue to haunt a few of us this week, spirits are high following Stewart Signs participation in ‘The Race to the King’, an epic 53-mile ultra-marathon raising money for Save the Children.

Following some intense training, an amateur but resilient team of Teresa Sutherland Dechnik (Sales & Marketing), Helen Lake, Matt Garland (Production) and Operations Director Daniel Field set off from Gaston Farm, Arundel last Saturday morning, beginning a 53 mile mission across peaks and troughs of the beautiful South Downs.

While Matt and Daniel raced in an army of runners aiming to complete within one day, Teresa and Helen joined hundreds of hikers for the 2-day endurance test.

Battling with injury and the sheer intensity of the terrain, Matt was advised to drop out after an incredible 32 miles forcing the others to soldier on.

Daniel broke through the pain barrier to smash the course in 13 hours despite cramp at mile 24 nearly sending him into the undergrowth (sadly no photographers were on hand).

Meanwhile, power-walkers Teresa and Helen made it to the halfway point in great time and after a much-needed recharge in the marathon base camp they completed the journey in 21 hours, to receive a well-deserved beer and supportive cheers in the shadow of Winchester Cathedral.

While the mission proved to be an extremely challenging affair, with everyone’s generous donations and the support of Stewart Signs clients, suppliers, families and friends, we’ve raised an amazing amount money for such a worthy cause. A massive thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this event.
