Our sustainability goals

POSTED 18.03.21

“Sustainability is something that’s really important to us. We are continually reviewing processes to see where we can improve. We are also looking at ways we can innovate while maintaining and supporting business systems to ensure the longterm wellbeing of our planet and everyone on it.”

Gareth Livingstone – Managing Director

To celebrate Global Recycling Day, we want to share our goals with you for improving our environmental impact and continually finding ways to make positive changes.

Before we look at that, we thought we’d share some of the processes and systems that are already in place.

0% of our controlled waste goes to landfill

We work closely with Veolia who provide us with business waste management and recycling services. This allows us to monitor how much of our waste is diverted and recycled each year.

We are extremely proud that 0% of our controlled waste goes to landfill. In 2020 2700kg of our waste was recycled and 20kg was diverted

If you’re unfamiliar with the term ‘diverted waste’ this means that instead of waste streaming to landfill, materials are diverted to recycling plants or used for other purposes e.g. food waste goes for composting.

Refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, recycle

We use and reuse our cardboard packaging when sending your orders out to you.

Each year with the help of Associated Polymer Resources we recycle 6,000 plastic end cores that are used for vinyl rolls. This means 1.6 tonnes of plastic avoids landfill/incineration.

For over 20 years we have donated scrap materials to a local charity these are repurposed for education, play or arts and crafts activities.

Using lean techniques, we ensure all projects are optimised with sustainability in mind e.g. Reducing material wastage.

Our goals

Our ultimate goal and core belief is that we should be preventing waste from the very beginning. Tackling this straight on when starting a project is the perfect mindset in becoming more sustainable.

We are looking at different options to remove as much plastic as we can from our packing process e.g. biodegradable bubble wrap.

We promote the use of 3M’s non-PVC solutions to our clients which have the following environmental benefits:

  • Phthalate-free
  • PVC free
  • Made in part with a bio-based materials
  • Manufactured using 58% less solvent
  • Made without chlorine or other halogens added

It’s widely known that PVC vinyl cannot be recycled, therefore the development of non-PVC materials is a huge step in the right direction for our industry.

Moving forward it is our goal to source sustainable materials, products and services wherever possible.

We continue to monitor our carbon footprint and assess ways we can reduce it. We’re developing methods of offsetting our carbon footprint such as making sure our fleet only make journeys that are planned and necessary.

These are just a few of the goals and ideas we have come up with so far. With more work and discussions planned, this list will continue to grow. Let’s work together to help the planet and build a better future for generations to come.
