Cab End Sealing
When one of the ROSCOs found water leaking through the roof of some of their driver cabs they asked Halo Rail for a solution . They had already tried silicon and other mastics but these cracked and leaked and had proved ineffective for rail washing cycles.
The water ingress could damage the circuitry producing unpredictable results with the main wiring looms under the leaks and the potential to short out. This was a serious design defect which apart from the cost of the damage and repairs, could lead to operator downtime, performance fines and claims against the ROSCO.
At worst the defect was safety critical. When the water entered the outer skin of the cab, it went undetected before it leaked through the inner skin into the cab. During the period of undetection it could do real harm to the on board electrical systems.
Halo working with their industry partners quickly engineered a solution. The cab-end sealing process Halo developed was tested and proven to provide a permanent dry seal that will stand up to the rigours of the railway environment.
